Sounds better and it can feel better too. What does it mean to live boldly? It’s about having days which are full of interest and optimism no matter how gray the outlook. It can mean having a purpose which fires your determination to succeed. It’s an approach which draws on your courage and wisdom and brings a sense of ease and confidence. Like a talisman it provides a feeling of protection when you are riding out storms. It can lead to new opportunities and experiences and can be the impetus for realising dreams whether great or small.
Boldness is about making your own choices, in tune with your needs and being internally directed rather than being in lock step with society or dancing to other people’s tunes. Back in the day when the pace of life was slower, its course was more predictable, moving through the stages of education, work and retirement. Now the ever- increasing rate of change opens up scope for imaginative choices and greater individual freedom, especially when you retire.
Funny thing with retirement we adopt the ostrich position about it, actually that’s a myth about ostriches, they don’t really put their heads in the sand. The point is that we are in denial when it comes to retirement, a survey for Irish Life found that nearly three quarters of us don’t plan how we are going to manage financially never mind what we are going to do with all that extra time we have gained. People will have to start thinking about saving for retirement next year when auto enrolment comes in so that those who don’t have an occupational pension currently will be covered.
But money is only half the story, you need finance for your needs but what do you actually want? How will you fill your days? You gain back a third of each 24 hours during the week, that adds up to around 2,000 hours a year. You need something to live on but you need something to live for and it makes sense to get some guidance in finding your way to the kind of fulfilling retirement that suits your needs.
